The Fear Factory (Halloween in Japan)

At 1:39 of the video (freeze it) you can see what jumped in on them to push them over the edge.
They never saw that costume or me near it. There is no association between me and that character (very important). I jumped in without planning it because it seemed like the next natural step of escalating fear. Take their little terrible spot and invade it...make it unbearably small.

The H.H. was mostly devoid of noise until that final symphony of screaming skulls, moaning zombies and eye poppers....a professional dance club strobe and a remote controlled smoke machine. That was all stuffed into a cage about 6ft tall and 3.5 ft wide that I built myself.

For the first time ever I deemed some scenes to be unsuitable. Others could take the scenes out of context. I cannot do more. I discovered just how far you can push the envelope. I suppose this might be the last of this tradition. I created so much fear that no one will ever do it again and I gotta consider possible diminished returns coming as a result of finding the edge of acceptable.

This exit door turned trap is the natural outcome of a 6th generation H.H. that has constantly been aimed at genuinely frightening folks.

I do this really well. Too well for a lot of folks comfort

Anyway..

Problem

After several years I had realized the fatal flaw in my Haunted House.

It was too scary. The more frightening the display item the more likely they would be to just put their head down and avert their eyes. They would technically "go through" the house but not experience it the way I intended. This was  definitely a "problem".

How could I make them look?...deal with it? face the fear....

Solution

Turn the end into the beginning.

Just as they thought they were about to exit..... they became extremely confused. The adrenaline that was pushing them through was now dulling their ability to deal with what they had in front of them. They were in the middle of the flight of the "Fight or Flight" instinct that is primal.

I put them into the "Flight" stage just so I could stop it and use it. It worked. They all crumpled into the floor and were completely overwhelmed. They were like human Jello. I would never share how I teach so well because it is unique to me and I would sooner share that than how to truly terrify people.I never share more than a scene because this is a craft. Another one that I do exceptionally well.

You probably stopped that video without a thought.

Control like freedom cannot be fully appreciated until it is lost or taken...even for just a few moments.

Your in control.
Enjoy!

Happy Halloween.
